FAQs
Your gums may have slightly receded, which can lead to sensitive teeth. Because of the recession of the gum line, the underlying dentin is visible, giving food and drink easier access to the sensitive nerve. A multitude of toothpastes, gels, and even dental procedures can be used to address this. Contact us for further information if you have extremely sensitive teeth.
Great tooth and gum care starts at home. Daily brushing and flossing is always the best way to take care of your teeth and gums. By doing your daily routine, you will greatly reduce your risk of cavities or tooth loss as you age.
Gingivitis occurs when bacteria surround the tooth and enter the mouth. Gums can be irritating, inflamed and often bloody. Regular cleaning is highly recommended to prevent the situation from getting worse. During your visit, our hygiene team will teach you proper flossing techniques and home care and oral hygiene routines.
Periodontal disease is a silent onset disease with few or no symptoms. It is caused by bacteria that bind to the teeth and enter the oral cavity. The immediate condition is known as ‘gingivitis’. The saliva becomes irritated, inflamed and often bleeds. If not properly treated, the condition worsens. Noticeable symptoms now appear. They include:
- Bad Breath
- Gum Recession
- Gum Sensitivity to Acidic Foods
- Abscesses
- Tooth Pain
- Tooth Loss
Periodontal disease is a chronic illness that requires medical attention right away. Periodontal cleanings, laser therapy, root planing and scaling, and local antibiotics can all be used to treat the condition. Dental surgery is necessary only in extreme cases.
Amalgams, also known as silver fillings, have been around for years. It is made of alloy steel and was the best for long term replenishment of fillings. Depending on the temperature of the food and drink you consume, metal expands and contracts. This resulted in fewer bacteria entering the tooth once filled; Keeping your teeth healthy and strong.
White products are made of plastic or glass, also known as composite. With a cavity, these aesthetic fillings can give us something that feels and looks like your natural tooth structure. This restoration is made of resinous and is used aggressively to prevent tooth decay. The composite color will match the color of the teeth rather than a gray or silver pigment in the mouth.
There are several ways in today’s dental world to enhance your smile. Certain procedures include:
- Tooth Whitening
- Bonding
- Porcelain Veneers
- Porcelain Crowns
We have the capability to improve your smile using all or some of these procedures. For an exact consultation, please contact our office so that we may provide you with a customized treatment plan.
Teeth whitening is a cost-effective and safe way to create a beautiful, healthy smile. Flour has been added to the whitening product over the years. This lessens the possibility of gum and tooth sensitivity.
Teeth whitening should be maintained by your dentist and only after a thorough examination and cleaning.
The whitening process can last for years if taken care of properly. Beverages such as coffee, tea, cola, and alcohol will reduce the lasting effects. Remember, if a white shirt can stain, it will ruin your smile!
It is a cost-effective way to fill gaps in the front teeth and change the color of the teeth. The immediate results are amazing. You will have a great laugh in a few hours! Like tooth whitening, bonding can change color over time due to coffee, tea, cola and alcohol.
Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that go directly onto your natural teeth. This whole process can take as little as two visits. Veneers change the size, shape and color of the patient’s teeth. This procedure is used to repair broken teeth, teeth darkened by age or chemicals, or a crooked smile. Often patients ask for porcelain veneers just to feel and look younger with a straight, white smile!
A crown is a permanent cosmetic dressing that covers the entire tooth surface. It will change the size, shape and color of the teeth in just a few moments.
A dental implant is a “man-made” replacement for a missing tooth or gum. Made of titanium, this screw-like device is inserted under the femur and inserted directly into the upper jaw bone. There are usually few problems with this process. The dental implant and the bone fuse together after a few months. This creates an anchor for a new tooth to be placed on top of the dental implant.
- Dental implants mimic your real tooth in appearance and functionality.
- Dental Implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth.
- Regular hygienic visits to your dentist’s office are necessary to maintain dental implants.
- Dental implants lessen the chance of tooth movement, periodontal disease, bone loss, and additional tooth loss.
- The need for a removable full or partial denture is eliminated by dental implants.
- Dental implants only focus on the missing tooth or teeth. Traditional bridges confused two or more adjacent teeth and created a false tooth in between.
With the tremendous advances in dentistry and dental implants, most people want dental implants. These may include chronic disease, cardiovascular disease, and serious orthopedic conditions.
The average dental implant takes 3 – 4 visits. The first visit is to x-ray the area and take the surgical guides and a temporary prosthesis to cover and entered the box.
The next visit is to place the implant. Local anesthesia is applied to that area (without consideration by the dentist unless some additional sedation is added). The dentist will then make a small cut to place in the implant. The implant is placed between the jawbones. The area will then be covered with ropes. Pain is typically minimal or nonexistent during the procedure.
You will return in about the next 3 months to begin the process of placing the porcelain crown over the implant.
The cost of dental implants varies from dentist to dentist. Always schedule an appointment for a body piercing to discuss the procedure and overall fees.
With regular dental hygiene prescriptions and proper home care, dental implants can last a lifetime for up to 30 years.
